Reading Non-Fiction Texts in Social Studies
For this project, we developed lessons which integrate Grade 4, 5 and 6 social studies with the language curriculum. We used the fiction and nonfiction Reading Signposts by Beers and Probst to read social studies texts for deeper understanding.

Tools for French as a Second Language Assessment Elementary to Secondary School
We developed tools to assess various curriculum expectations and student learning. We created single-point rubrics to assess three different skills: Speaking to Interact, Speaking to Communicate, and Writing.

Creating a “Culture of Thinking” and Digital Portfolios: Integrating Language and Social Studies
In this project, FreshGrade ePortfolios were created for Grade 4 and Grade 7 students. Teachers planned integrated Social studies/language units whereby technology was used to “Capture the Learning” of students.

Using an Action-Oriented Approach for Effective Communication in Secondary Core and Immersion French as a Second Language
Our group discussed listening skills and oral communication in FSL (French) by reading articles, gathering and trying various resources, incorporating technology where appropriate, and developing a document to annotate these strategies and resources.
