This project incorporates information from professional ‘best practices’ documents to create a continuum for teaching writing from the beginning of Junior Kindergarten through to the end of Grade One. The document clearly sets out a developmentally appropriate continuum of skills to be focused on each term throughout the school year, which align with the Ontario Curriculum Specific Expectations for Writing. It also co-ordinates these skills with suggested order for the purposes of writing, addressed in the Ontario Writing Assessment Guide for Kindergarten and Grade One. This project also includes some examples of mini-lessons and writing tasks, graphic organizers, exemplars and assessment tools, and other suggestions of resources that might be useful in following this program the teaching of writing.
