As students travel through the landscape of mathematics, certain rules tend to break on them. Certain rules expire as our need for more sophisticated number concepts and operations develops. That is why giving students “tricks” probably harms them in the long run.
This webinar will explore how to build a strong conceptual foundation, so students’ understanding doesn’t “break”. We will look at these and other topics:
-does multiplication make a number bigger, always?
-how do fraction addition, multiplication and division work?
-how do we introduce and build an understanding of integers, and how to add and subtract them.
In this webinar, participants will learn how to “nix the tricks”, and build a strong conceptual foundation for all their students.
