This session explores ways to engage students as co-researchers who test and evaluate teaching and learning strategies, who actively work to communicate what they know and who collaborate in planning their next steps. We will approach this session with the mindset that we are learners with our students in the quest to improve our collective and individual understanding of mathematics. Once the students are actively engaged in assessment, the nature of the ‘test’ changes dramatically. Participants will leave the session with:
- Ready-to-implement strategies for nurturing a classroom culture with a growth-mindset
- Ideas for encouraging the development of easily assessed metacognitive skills
- Links to resources to further their understanding
