Economic and financial literacy are core competencies for good citizenship but can be very puzzling to teach. The Bank of Canada is here to help. Representatives from the currency and museum departments will highlight activities, lesson plans, and resources for K-12 teachers and students, produced by educators for educators. They’ll highlight their most popular entry points into economic and financial concepts, all while connecting to the curriculum, including financial literacy concepts from the new Math Curriculum for Grades 1-8. Our reliable, factual, and bilingual resources will help you and your students find connections to this complex topic in many ways. Highlighted programs and lesson plans to be featured include fraud prevention and anti-counterfeiting resources, bank note design and creation using historical thinking, the role of a common currency in trading, understanding inflation, and activities and worksheets for younger years on saving, spending, and counting coins and bills.
