Several years ago, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) decided to choose annually an organization or charity to support in lieu of mailing festive cards. This year, OTF is a proud sponsor of Hunger Action Month, a September project of Feed Ontario, the Ontario Association of Food Banks.
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage the public to take action to end hunger in their communities through four key actions: educate, advocate, volunteer, and donate.
Week 1: education
There are many myths and misunderstandings that surround both the clients that rely on food banks and the root causes of hunger. In order to make the dream of a hunger-free Ontario a reality, it’s important that all Ontarians learn more about the reality of food insecurity in our province.
Supporting materials on the web site include Stories of Hunger, a select few Hunger Map riding stats accompanied by media stories, and key stats from Feed Ontario blog posts and reports, with infographics.
Week 2, 3 and 4 focus on advocate, volunteer and donate.
OTF would appreciate it if you could share this information with others. Materials can be found on the FEED Ontario website: https://feedontario.ca/hunger-action-month.
