Congratulations to three outstanding Ontario teachers

OTIP (the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) and the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) are proud to announce the winners of the OTIP Teaching Awards for 2020.

Because of the pandemic, winners did not receive their awards at an in-person presentation this year.

The following teachers are outstanding recipients of the awards:

  • Deanna Gaughan, James Grieve Public School, Caledon, Beginning Teacher category
Heather Lett, Eganville & District Public School, Eganville, Elementary Teacher category
  • Cameron Douglas, Peterborough Alternative Continuing Education (PACE) at Peterborough C&VI, Peterborough, Secondary Teacher category

“OTIP is honoured to recognize these incredible leaders within the education community,” said Vic Medland, OTIP CEO. “This has been a year of uncertainty and adjustment, and Ontario teachers have risen to the occasion. The recipients of this teaching award are standout examples. They are truly inspiring in their commitment to learning, teaching, and ensuring that every student has the support they need to reach their potential.”

“The three award winners this year exemplify the excellence in teaching across Ontario,” stated Parker Robinson, OTF President. “Through the efforts of teachers such as Deanna, Cameron and Heather, Ontario’s publicly funded education system remains respected around the world. Our students deserve nothing less.”

OTIP and OTF co-sponsor the OTIP Teaching Awards for excellence in teaching in the publicly funded school system. Three awards are presented: secondary school teacher, elementary school teacher and beginning teacher. Anyone can nominate a teacher in Ontario’s publicly funded schools, including public, Catholic, and francophone school boards. More information on the awards can be found at teachingawards.ca.

About OTIP: Creating Insured Members for Life. At OTIP (www.otip.com), we not only understand the education system, we believe in it. OTIP has been committed to providing quality insurance benefits and advice for the best value since 1977. Across all lines of insurance, OTIP provides coverage to over 160,000 education employees in the province. Owned by Ontario’s four education Affiliates (AEFO, ETFO, OECTA and OSSTF) and directed by a Board of Trustees, OTIP was built on the belief that educators would be better served by a not-for-profit insurance advocate that was part of the education community. This remains our philosophy today.

The Ontario Teachers’ Federation is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000 teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all the publicly funded schools in the province—elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and francophone.
