The Teaching Combined Grades AQ course is ideal for any teacher who is assigned to teach a combined grade or anticipates the possibility in the future. It is open to all elementary or secondary teachers who have a basic qualification in general studies who wish to deepen their pedagogical knowledge. The single session AQ course focuses professional learning on:
- recognizing the vast range of learners in the combined grade classroom
- exploring, understanding and clustering curriculum expectations to establish enduring understanding across multiple grades and subjects
- utilizing a variety of planning tools and techniques to effectively plan both short term (day plans, lesson plans) and long term (long range and unit plans) for a combined grade class.
- focusing instruction on big ideas and/or fundamental concepts and skills that are common between grades.
