In the age of Googling, the job of librarians is more important than ever! Stand up and be counted as a role model for resource-based learning where collections encompass a vast array of information tools from books to bytes in the virtual world. Wherever information is, we should be able to find it. Wherever learning takes place, we should be able to develop information-savvy learners who know what they need and where to find it.

These abilities place us in a leadership role within schools where we must model new teaching and learning strategies to support both teachers and students. What does it take to lead the war against Googling in the 21st century?

This leadership course has been developed for teachers who already have a deep level of learning about subject content and pedagogy gained from practical teaching experience, professional reading and previous course work.

Topics in this course include:

– Different conceptions of leadership relating to teacher librarians
– Concepts and procedures relating to action research
– Factors in school culture that facilitate or impede change
– Issues surrounding collection development and weeding
– Strategies for Web searching and website evaluation.
– An action research project in your school library
– A strategic plan for your school library
