Teacher Librarian Part 1 prepares teachers to develop and co-ordinate an integrated school curriculum as part of a school library information centre. This course explores the role of teacher-librarians as curriculum leaders and media / technology specialists while emphasizing effective collaboration practices. Teacher Librarian Part 1 also supports the expectations that are outlined in the Ministry of Education curriculum policy documents and other Ministry of Education policies.
Candidates learn strategies to enhance teaching and learning experiences in schools and school library information centres. Selected topics include collection development and selection strategies, information literacy, censorship, and media and technology integration. The College recognizes that candidates will have a need to explore in an integrated delivery model, topics and issues of particular relevance to the educational context in which they work or may work. The course is open to all elementary and secondary teachers who hold a valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification or an Interim Certificate of Qualification.
