Course Description
In Special Education Part 1, participants will closely examine exceptionalities and intersectional factors, developing a deep understanding of diverse student needs and the corresponding school supports. There is a strong emphasis on the role of the teacher in facilitating smooth student transitions, championing literacy, and implementing flexible assessment practices that align with the principles of equity and inclusion.

Acquire comprehensive content knowledge essential for effective practice in special education.*Engage in collaborative learning led by an expert instructor to co-construct meaningful learning objectives.*Gain an understanding of relevant legislation and policies governing special education practices.*Apply learned curriculum content and policies to diverse teaching contexts effectively.*Explore the learning context of special education, including Standards of Practice, strategies for parent/guardian and community engagement, and considerations of learner identity.*Examine research, theories, and frameworks pertinent to special education to inform teaching practices.*Utilize acquired research insights to enhance teaching approaches in individual teaching contexts.
