Religious Education Part 1 provides you with the professional knowledge and the religious literacy necessary for teaching within Ontario Catholic School boards. As you work through the material, you will learn how to integrate religious teachings into the classroom, build faith communities through personal and communal knowledge, and, through ongoing faith formation, grow as an adult member of the Catholic Church.
This course is designed as a positive learning experience – allowing you to search for meaning through personal reflection and interactions with your fellow colleagues and instructor. You will also have the opportunity to develop a portfolio that showcases your understanding of the distinctive vision that Ontarios Catholic Schools have for their students.
Religious Education Part 1 is open to all candidates who have a basic qualification in general or technical studies.
Topics in this course include:
– Catholic School board expectations for graduates
– Foundational pieces of the Catholic Faith
– Importance of belonging to a faith community, faith and culture, and how to conduct a prayer service catered towards children
the role of scripture, sacraments and prayer in the classroom
– Morality and ethics of teaching in a Catholic School.
