Religious Education in Catholic Schools Part 1, a 125-hour course, is designed for elementary and secondary school teachers who are qualified to teach in general education. Part 1 of the Religious Education in a Catholic School Setting course is designed to increase teachers’ skills and knowledge of designing, delivering, and evaluating a religious education program in a Catholic school setting. It is based on the expectations set out in the Religious Education curriculum and the policies of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Religious Education in Catholic Schools Part I Additional Qualification course is an introduction to the subject. It covers the following elements: the mission of Catholic schools; Scripture; spiritual, sacramental, and liturgical life; the Church and the postmodern world; faith in action; ethics and morality; pedagogical practices for religious education; school-based pastoral care; and the faith journey as it relates to teaching and learning at all levels.
