The Reading, Part 1 AQ course supports educators in creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment, and provides the context for educators to explore the professional knowledge and practices related to the teaching and learning of reading. We will explore scientifically supported literacy instruction that aligns with current brain research and the science of reading. Best practices for teaching students on phonemic awareness, phonics and word-reading proficiency, as well as syllable and morphological knowledge and analysis will also be explored. This course provides candidates with opportunities to engage in meaningful inquiries as well as experiential learning opportunities that support the integration of theory and practice within the context of the teaching and learning of reading.
