This course, including its modular format, examines the reading process and the stages of reading development. Emphasis is on classroom instructional strategies for assessing growth and the development of reading competencies. Participants examine the importance of children/adolescent literature, both fiction and non-fiction and its relationship to literacy development. Participants will be involved in discussions and presentations and will participate in seminars relating to current practices and issues. The course, including its modular format, is open to all elementary and secondary school teachers who have one of the following basic qualifications: primary, junior, intermediate or senior division.
