Principal’s Qualification Program, Part 2 (York, Winter 2024, Virtual Blended)

January 14, 2025 to March 28, 2025

  • Category: ABQ, Online
  • Region: Central Ontario, Eastern Ontario, GTA, Northern Ontario, Outside Ontario, Southern Ontario
  • Topic: Teacher Leadership
  • Grades: Intermediate (grades 7-10), JK-SK, Junior (grades 4-6), Primary (grades 1-3), Senior (grades 11-12)

The PQP course components are designed using the five domains of the School–Level Leadership Framework (Ontario Institute for Educational Leadership [IEL], 2013) along with the Personal Leadership Resources (PLRs) that influence the effectiveness with which leadership practices are enacted. The course is based upon The Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession, The Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession, The Professional Learning Framework for the Teaching Profession and the current Ontario College of Teachers Principal Qualification Guideline, 2017.

The topics explored within each of the components are current, research-based and directly applicable to the complex role of the school leader. At York University, an emphasis is placed on leading-edge thinking and learning contexts that promote diversity, focus on equity and exemplify critical pedagogy, innovation, and action research. The importance of the everyday work of the educational leader is stressed as relational and collaborative. This course promotes interrelationships between ethical practices, professional knowledge, skills, values and ongoing professional learning in creating and sustaining democratic school cultures toward the enhancement of student learning, well-being, and achievement. This course meets the professional needs of Ontario’s educational leaders by fostering a learning culture in which leaders collaboratively build their skills and knowledge, drawing on the expertise of others and sharing their experiences to grow as leaders. Participants are immersed in the ethical realities of school administration and given the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed in their new roles.
