This course provides a detailed look at the history of Intermediate Family Studies, the official curriculum as it exists today, and examines the many ways of engaging intermediate students in topics and issues that are relevant to the everyday life of families in Canada. One of the goals of the Intermediate Family Studies course is to broaden your expertise in family studies and increase your knowledge, skills, and confidence in all areas of concentration including: Food and Nutrition, Fashion and Housing, General Family Studies, and Raising and Caring for Children. This course will provide you with opportunities to identify and integrate these areas of concentration for Intermediate students.
By the time you complete Intermediate Family Studies, you’ll know about:
– Theories of student learning useful in building your Family Studies program
– Methods and strategies specific to the Family Studies classroom and your school community
– Useful resources to support your Family Studies teaching practice
– Safety issues connected with teaching Family Studies.
