Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to develop understanding of classroom theory and practice in FSL required for core and immersion programs. Candidates are equipped with the skills needed to teach FSL at the primary, junior, intermediate and senior levels. This course reinforces the importance of learning this second language with real life experiences and technologies in the classroom. Teachers promote its usage with students as well as parents involvement with community events and activities. NOTE: Veuillez noter que le cours sera donné entièrement en français! Topics include:
- Analyzing classroom practice to assist students with commitment to FSL learning
- Understanding francophone culture in Canada and around the world
- Demonstrating understanding of how to accommodate and /or modify expectations, strategies and assessment for students with special needs in FSL
- Using real life experiences and technologies in the FSL classroom
- Understanding relevant and authentic assessment practices
- Demonstrating the AIM program
- Reviewing resources used in the elementary and secondary FSL Core classroom
- Using music and drama in the FSL classroom
- Understanding how to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Understanding FSL Extended and Immersion approaches to French and to other subjects taught in French
Requirements:

- Hold a “Certificate of Qualification” or “Interim Certificate of Qualification” showing basic qualifications in two divisions, i.e. Primary, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior. (Candidates who hold an Interim COQ may have different/additional criteria for registration as required by the Ontario College of Teachers, and as specified on their Interim COQ.)
- Certificate of Qualification must be in good standing
- Pass the French proficiency Test with at least an overall B. There is a $50.00 charge for the cost of the test.
