This is an introductory course that aims at preparing teachers for the three French as a Second Language programs: Core French, Extended French and French Immersion.

Throughout the course, candidates will explore theories relevant to the teaching and learning of a second language as per the French as a Second Language curriculum in Ontario. This course will also focus on developing and using teaching strategies necessary to engage students and promote student success in FSL. The course is designed to provide teachers an opportunity to use their knowledge of the French language and culture to plan effectively.

PREREQUISITES

Prerequisites for Part 1:

  1. Certificate of Qualification:
    Must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers or hold an interim Certificate of Qualification. It is no longer necessary to send in a copy of your Certificate of Qualification. We have access to this information via the OCT Public Registry.
  2. Basic Division Qualification:
    Evidence of the basic division qualification in the respective Primary Division or Junior Division.
  3. Pre-Admission Test in French:
    Successful completion of the French Proficiency Test at OISE within the last 3 years.

Please Note:

Any exceptions and additional requirements are noted below.

  • Part I courses do not lead to a divisional entry on the Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification. See Primary, Junior/Intermediate, and Senior Basic Qualifications.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Successful completion is a final grade of C-Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.
