This course provides candidates with a foundation and understanding of the underlying philosophy related to English as a Second Language and English Literacy Development programs. It provides this general understanding of the elementary second language learner from three important perspectives: sociocultural, linguistic, and instructional methods. The course prepares all teachers to be effective in a multilingual, multicultural, multiracial teaching and learning environment, and to develop an awareness of the role of the ESL/ELD teacher in a variety of settings.
