The Cooperative Education Part 1 course is an introduction to school-based experiential programs for teachers with limited experience in this mode of delivery. Practical aspects of cooperative education that are introduced in this course are the implementation of school-based experiential learning programs, the location of student work placements, and assisting school administration with experiential education programs.
Topics in this course include:
– Foundations of Cooperative Education including cooperative education philosophy, experiential learning components, community partners and school/staff partners.
– Pre-Course Planning, including student selection process, pre-course counseling and interview process, consultation, student file preparation
– Program Planning, including course logistics, pre-placement classroom program, health and safety instruction, integration activities program
– Placement, including assessment of placements, obtaining placements, sharing placements, personalized placement learning plans
– Assessment including classroom learning assessment, exceptional students, monitoring responsibilities, legal and ethical issues
– Review of resources available to Cooperative Education teachers.
You will complete activities that will:
– Encourage discussions with your peers and colleagues
– Promote reflective thinking in your daily practice
– Increase your knowledge level of experiential education through exploration of resources and references
– Create practical artifacts and tools that may be applied to your teaching practice
– Prepare a virtual summary of the content of the course.
