The focus of the Additional Qualification course: Librarianship, Specialist is to provide candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the role of the teacher-librarian within the school setting. This course extends the knowledge and skills from Part I and II. Particular emphasis is placed on the leadership functions of the teacher-librarian with regards to school library programs.
Topics include:
- demonstrating leadership in developing collaboration strategies with teachers in curriculum planning
- creating a central repository of prepared curriculum support and professional development resources for staff and administration
- developing a network with community resources and experts to enhance program
- demonstrating the skills required to evaluate strategies that effectively utilize library budgets
- demonstrating leadership skills in using data bases to maximize library use
- demonstrating leadership in developing planned, sequential, school-wide research programs
- modeling the use of electronic curriculum planning tools
- promoting inclusive strategies and resources to meet the needs of all learners
- advocating for the cross-curricular delivery of research skills and information technologies
- developing initiatives to support student literacy
- participating in local, regional and global information networks
- promoting the use of information technology in the inquiry and research process
- providing in-service for library staff and community partners
