The underlying purpose of the Additional Qualification course: Dance, Specialist is to extend the skills and knowledge from Parts I and II, with a focus on leadership skills in the study of dance. The course combines an in depth knowledge of dance studies with a focus on leadership skills.
Topics include:
- examining dance forms of historical and cultural significance
- modeling and promoting technical proficiency in various dance forms
- providing examples of best practice for other teachers on how to choreograph dance works for presentation in several dance forms
- providing examples of best practice for other teachers in modelling teaching strategies and sharing assessment strategies
- examining and critiquing educational policies that will have implications for dance studies, and creating local plans of action and response
- analyzing the connections between dance and the community
- linking with dance professionals in dance companies, community colleges and the university
- sharing with others knowledge of dance organizations
- organizing professional development for others
- managing areas such as budgets, selection of text books, multimedia, coordinating with outreach programs
- modeling collaborative relationships with in-school personnel, parents/guardians and the community that includes dance professionals
