Or are you someone new to the field, interested in teaching art for the first time? Are you an elementary teacher thinking about changing panels? Have you taught art before or is this a leap into the great unknown? Whatever your reason, Congratulations! and welcome to the ABQ: Senior Visual Arts course. Together we will explore what it means to be a teacher of the visual arts. This is a collaborative course, designed to examine studio practices, probe current issues in art education and provide you with a chance to reflect on your practice. By the end of the course you should have “remade” yourself in some significant ways.

– Modernist and Postmodernist Art Education
– Interpretive frameworks as a belief system
– Performance assessment strategies
– Scoring and judging strategies
– Benefits of assessment to art education
– Long range planning in program development
– What is a good resource?
– Designing a unit
