This course is designed to provide teachers with an increased knowledge of child growth and development; further development of curriculum content and material for kindergarten and primary teachers; and an opportunity to refine and extend appropriate teaching strategies so that children develop skills in all curriculum areas.
Building on knowledge, skills, and teaching strategies provided in Part 1, this course will emphasize program planning and evaluation of kindergarten and primary programs. An advanced study of primary curriculum and a review of formal and informal assessment techniques will be included.
The leadership role in primary education including the development of skills necessary to plan and present inservice programs will be the focus of this course. Primary curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and revision, based on the application of principles of child growth and development, will also be included. This introductory course will include patterns of language development; reading and writing processes; current approaches to literary instruction; literature in the curriculum; assessment of individual language development; and evaluation of elementary and secondary language curricula.
