Our schools are workplaces and vulnerable to experiencing incidents of workplace violence, including domestic violence. Bill 168 made amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act requiring workplaces to address domestic violence. Violent episodes, including deaths, related to domestic violence have occurred in the workplace in Ontario. This workshop will support teachers by increasing their awareness and ability to identify at-risk situations.
Barb MacQuarrie will discuss the principles of domestic violence risk assessment and risk management, identifying warning signs and risk factors for violence in intimate relationship, and guidelines for information sharing and collaboration when dangerous situations arise. Learning will be guided through the use of scenarios based on cases reviewed by the Ontario Domestic Violence Death Review Committee, including that of Ayselgul Candir. This session is presented by Barb MacQuarrie, Community Director, Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children
