In 2011, a federal task force on financial literacy issued a report to the Federal government advocating for the creation of a national strategy on financial learning and literacy for Canadians. Sound financial literacy knowledge and skills help Canadians of all ages to make informed and responsible decisions and choices. In Ontario, financial literacy is infused and interwoven across subject areas in the Ontario curriculum in grades 4 through 12.
The Inspire Financial Learning (IFL) program is supported by the Ontario Teachers’ Federation. The IFL program equips teachers, students, parents and guardians with unbiased, independent and effective tools and strategies to help them navigate the complex world of finances and also supports them in making responsible financial choices.
