In September, Keith Hoare received the Toronto Star Teacher of the Year Award. The headline in the article by Louise Brown, Toronto Star education reporter states, “Using many ingredients to inspire his pupils.” It goes on to say that Keith, an instructor in hospitality and tourism program uses student outings, participation in competitions, and lessons in life skills to inspire pupils in neighbourhood facing socio-economic challenges.”
But then, Keith then went on to win the Chopped Canada competition in the season 2 opener on the Food Network on January 10. Eileen Thomas, U of T News reporter, states that, “with the Chopped Canada winnings, Hoare and his students have raised $150,000 over the last seven-and-a-half years, including $45,000 for an earlier culinary field trip to Italy, $60,000 for the upcoming culinary field trip to Spain and France and $45,000 for equipment for the Thistletown CI football team.”
Congratulations, Keith – you make us proud.
