It is not uncommon for students to feel frustrated when trying to solve mathematical equations and to take the attitude that they cannot succeed. However, with the right tools and tricks, teachers can turn a negative mindset into a positive growth mindset.
Havergal’s Primary/Junior Mathematics Specialists Andy Lucacescu and Britney Coleman have seen first-hand how having a positive mathematical mindset can help students feel more confident about their math skills and more willing to keep trying when they fail. They want to share with you their tips and tricks to developing a positive mathematical mindset in themselves and their students.
Keynote speaker Kathryn Kubota-Zarivnij, former President of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME), will talk about the importance of teacher understanding and preparation for mathematical thinking. She will also lead two sessions designed for the Intermediate mathematics teachers.
