In the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Recommendations, the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Association of Ontario (FNMIEAO) presents an Educator Conference 30 April – 1 May 2016 in Brampton, ON. Education through Reconciliation through Education includes practical and interactive workshops, Traditional Teachings and Indigenous Language presentations.
Keynote speakers include:
Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner: Wilton Littlechild
Métis Artist and Founder of Walking with our Sisters: Christi Belcourt
Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba, Faculty of Education: Kevin Lamoureux
Educators will explore big questions: What does it mean to be an Ally? How do we implement Indigenous Pedagogy in the Classroom? What does it mean to Learn from the Land? Why are we all Treaty people? How do we teach Indigenous Languages more effectively?
The Saturday night banquet will be followed by storytelling with Isaac Murdoch, performances by the Métis Fiddler Quartet and Hoop Dancing by Theland Kicknosway.
