Eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder, are mental health concerns that have become more commonplace in our lexicon. Despite this, many people struggle to understand why someone who might be intelligent, talented, and accomplished (a classic description) would undermine her or his health as a result of struggling with food. In addition, even if you feel confident in your ability to determine what the signs are in someone who is compromised by an eating disorder, many people are also apprehensive and uncertain about how to approach someone in order to encourage them to get help.

This workshop aims to increase your understanding of the elements that contribute to the development of the eating disorders, as well as to provide you with indicators for identification and practical tips for approaching someone about whom you may be concerned. Lecture, PowerPoint, discussion, demonstration and role play will provide structure to the day. By the end of the day, you can expect to appreciate the complexities of an issue that ironically, does not have to do with food.
