Dance is a means to actively engage students in the curriculum. This course is an introduction to the theoretical and practical uses of dance in elementary and secondary schools as both a subject and teaching methodology. The focus is on the use of basic dance conventions such as rhythm, movement, and styles, to enhance student learning. Methods of student assessment and evaluation appropriate to dance are also explored. Participatory workshops provide you with an opportunity to enhance your skills and confidence in the use of dance across the curriculum, and you have an opportunity to become familiar with learning materials and strategies available to assist with program design and student engagement.
