The philosophy that underlies broad-based technological education is that students learn best by doing. This curriculum therefore adopts an activity-based, project-driven approach that involves students in problem solving as they develop knowledge and skills and gain experience in the technological subject area of their choice.

Technological Education – The Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 and 10, 2009

As with all Queens Technological Education courses, the Green Industries Technology course 9/10 ABQ uses an activity-based project approach to help you acquire the skills and knowledge you will need to be successful in this course. We will be exploring lesson plans, assessment and evaluation strategies and curriculum activity development for Green Industries.

The course has 8 modules which are divided into assignments and activities. Although this is an online course, you will spend as many hours off the computer as on it. You will communicate with your classmates and develop a professional rapport with them sharing ideas and information.

Green Industries covers five specific disciplines which includes agriculture, forestry, horticulture, floristry, and landscaping. We will investigate each of these disciplines separately throughout the course. This does not mean that when you teach Green Industries, you cannot combine several elements together to create many various activities. (You could stone-scape a retaining wall around a rock garden filled with annuals.) Although separate, each of the 5 disciplines can work together. For example, you could stone-scape a retaining wall around a rock garden filled with annuals. They are discussed in separate modules for logistical purposes only.
