The underlying purpose of the Additional Qualification course Cooperative Education Part II is to extend the knowledge learned in Part I and to serve as an introduction to leadership and the design of experiential learning within a secondary school.
Candidates taking this course will view cooperative education as an exciting educational process designed to promote skill development, individual career development and self awareness by means of integrating classroom theory with planned and supervised practical experiences in business, industry or community service organizations. The knowledge and skills acquired in an in-school class are supplemented at a community placement.
You will have the opportunity to reflect on all course work, complete a procedures manual and analyze and critically evaluate your learning.
Topics in this course include:
- Foundations of Cooperative Education, including review of Ministry of Education policies, managing administrative tasks, accessing important resources
- Partnerships in Cooperative Education, including employer partnerships, parent partnerships, professional and school partnerships
- Program Implementation including career education
- Placements, including securing placements, pre-placement concerns, personalized placement learning plans, legal and ethical issues
- Program Implementation, including independent study, placement learning assessment, program effectiveness issues
- Student/Record Management, including timelines, management issues, documentation, student transportation
- Reflection and Synthesis of Learning in a course culminating project.
