This course will introduce a variety of comprehensive strategies for creating, supporting and fostering a safe, inclusive, student-focused classroom; a process that begins with effective classroom management. The Learning Environment inspects how several different components of teaching work simultaneously to create and maintain a positive, ethical, equitable, accepting, inclusive, engaging, creative and safe learning environment. You will explore instructional practices that promote a collaborative community that encourages student voice, leadership, critical inquiry, and self-regulation. In addition, you will have the opportunity to promote authentic partnerships that value shared responsibility, decision-making, advocacy, and leadership. This course is an opportunity for new and established educators to inspect, challenge and moderate the processes involved in developing strong classroom communities that foster care, respect and well-being.

- Explore and examine different theories of classroom management and how they contribute to developing classroom communities

- Critically design and develop classroom space, layouts giving consideration to social and contextual factors as well as current societal trends that impact student as well as teacher well-being
