Course Description
This course examines the characteristics associated with Autism and the implications for learning. Through collaborative dialogue, inquiry based activities and reflective practice, candidates will explore a range of strategies for student success, including structured teaching, positive behaviour supports, visual strategies and evidence-based pedagogy. Creating a positive learning environment that reflects care, diversity, and equity is the foundation of this course.
Prerequisites
1. General Certificate of Qualification and Registration (CQR) with the Ontario College of Teachers in Good Standing.
2. Basic Qualifications in Primary, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior divisions in general studies. (Our office will verify your OCT status and CQR via the online OCT Public Register. You do not need to send a copy).
If you hold a Transitional Certificate of Qualification and Registration, you cannot enroll in an Additional Qualifications course.
Teachers trained outside of Ontario, who wish to teach in Ontario, must be a fully registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers PRIOR to registration in an AQ course. Exceptions may be made for trained teachers from other jurisdictions who do not plan to teach in Ontario. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
