The Teaching Combined Grades Additional Qualification course is designed to help teachers reflect on and develop strategies and skills to navigate the challenges of teaching in a combined-grades classroom. Participants will explore the importance of establishing classroom norms that promote a positive, safe, and equitable learning environment. By familiarizing themselves with the Ontario Curriculum documents, they will be better equipped to design and deliver curricular expectations in a combined-grade classroom, using differentiated instruction and approaches such as inquiry-based learning. Evaluation of assessment strategies, including triangulation and use of the Achievement Chart, will provide the tools to effectively measure student success. Other topics include a collaborative teacher inquiry, teaching through a special education lens, exploring Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing, helping students develop global competencies, and effective integration of technology into a combined-grade classroom.
