Antisemitism is a grave threat to students’ safety and to human rights, and left unchecked, becomes a harbinger for persecution against other minorities, intolerance and the corrosion of democracy. This past year alone has seen a marked increase in antisemitism and related hate crimes in schools, online, here in Canada and around the world. Join the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and Facing History and Ourselves for this webinar where we will seek to:
- Equip educators to recognize contemporary antisemitism, and understand its historical roots.
- Explore historical stereotypes and myths at the root of contemporary antisemitism, and share knowledge to help you recognize its manifestation today; developing a critical consciousness about the history of antisemitism and its contemporary legacies.
- Share tools and teaching strategies that empower educators and students to have intentional conversations on difficult topics that are necessary for addressing rising antisemitism and white nationalism.
This workshop is open to all educators, administrators, curriculum support and equity consultants who are interested in learning more about antisemitism. The content, resources and strategies we will introduce are best suited for grade 7-12 Social Science, Art and Humanities classroom teachers, as well as faculty who support extracurricular student clubs.
