Environmental Science is a dynamic subject area that draws on knowledge and experience from several disciplines. The Senior Environmental Science AQ is designed to prepare teachers to teach the two high school Environmental Science courses (SVN3M and SVN3E) as well as Locally Developed courses that connect to the environment. The course provides opportunities for participants to grow as environmental leaders and develop new ways to inspire the environmental stewards of the future. Through inquiry, reflection, professional dialogue, collaboration with colleagues, and independent research, they will develop strategies to guide Senior students through challenging environmental topics in the age of 21C knowledge and will create learning opportunities that encourage a lifelong curiosity and concern for the environment. Participants will explore topics such as ecological literacy, the influence of media on society’s view of environmental issues, student engagement, environmental connections to Indigenous culture and knowledge, assessment and evaluation, pathway planning for students, the Specialist High Skills Major–Environment, and community partnerships.
