The underlying purpose of the Additional Qualification course: Dance, Specialist is to extend the skills and knowledge from Parts I and II, with a focus on leadership skills in the study of dance. The course combines an in depth knowledge of dance studies with a focus on leadership skills.

Topics include:

• examining dance forms of historical and cultural significance
• modeling and promoting technical proficiency in various dance forms
• providing examples of best practice for other teachers on how to choreograph dance works for presentation in several dance forms
• providing examples of best practice for other teachers in modelling teaching strategies and sharing assessment strategies
• examining and critiquing educational policies that will have implications for dance studies, and creating local plans of action and response
• analyzing the connections between dance and the community
•  linking with dance professionals in dance companies, community colleges and the university
•  sharing with others knowledge of dance organizations
• organizing professional development for others
•  managing areas such as budgets, selection of text books, multimedia, coordinating with outreach programs
• modeling collaborative relationships with in-school personnel, parents/guardians and the community that includes dance professionals
