Course Description

At the end of this active and engaging course, teachers will have a mix of practical and theoretical ideas to bring back to their classrooms in the fall. Learn about the various aspects that make a successful music programme, and experience different approaches to music education. Activate your own creativity as a musician and a teacher as we experience processes for inspiring creative and critical thinking in our students. Move, sing, dance and play the recorder and other instruments, experiencing the joy of music the way you want your students to.

Notes

  • Instruction is aimed at the primary/junior classroom teacher.
  • The ability to read music is an asset and preferred, although not required. Teachers will learn to read music during the course.
  • Advanced music training is not a prerequisite for this course.

Note: There is a $30 fee for a required text. Candidates are responsible for bringing a recorder.

Teachers holding qualifications in technological education are also eligible to take this Three-Session Qualification course.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for Part 1:

  1. Certificate of Qualification:
    Must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers.  It is no longer necessary to send in a copy of your Certificate of Qualification. We have access to this information via the OCT Public Registry.

Note: the ability to read music is an asset and preferred, although not required. Teachers will learn to read music during the course.
