Music – Instrumental Specialist AQ (OISE, Summer 2019, Blended)

July 3, 2019 to July 24, 2019

  • Category: AQ
  • Region: GTA
  • Topic: Arts
  • Grades: Intermediate (grades 7-10), Senior (grades 11-12)

Course Description

Candidates examine the Music Curriculum holistically, and adapt it to various specific school settings from the instrumental music perspective. Research on how students learn is investigated. Readings from a variety of sources provide a methodological and philosophical foundation for developing a sound music education practice in the classroom. By the conclusion of the program, successful participants: demonstrate an understanding of music education as an important form of human expression, know Ministry of Education program guidelines and standards, select instructional strategies to suit the appropriate developmental stages of students, and design curriculum that enable students to meet both overall and specific learning expectations. Music teachers are encouraged to become arts education leaders and advocates, both in the school and amongst members of the school community. Creativity, critical thinking and problem solving are connected to The Ontario Learning Expectations through a series of workshops with guest artists.
