Kindergarten Part 1 is the first of a three session specialist Additional Qualification (AQ). Kindergarten Part 1 is for Candidates interested in updating their skills or enhancing their professional knowledge about effective early years practice with children aged 3.5 – 6 years.  This AQ asks Candidates to explore theoretical foundations, the development of young children, program planning and implementation, assessment, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning in the early years. Participants will explore gain new knowledge and will refine their teaching practice in order to promote learning opportunities that are play-based, differentiated, empowering, and integral to the development of young children. An emphasis will be placed on the importance of collaborative partnerships with families and other early years professionals.

Prerequisites:

• Certificate of Qualification and Registration or Interim Certificate of Qualification and Registration (ICQR) or ICQR (Limited) with the Ontario College of Teachers.
• Basic Qualifications in the Primary Division.
