Computer Technology Grades 9 and 10 ABQ (OISE, Halton, Summer 2017, Blended)

The course focuses on the skills and theory underpinning the study of Computer Technology. Subjects include a review of Ontario Curriculum and policies, an examination of Ethical Standards and Standards of Practice, Theoretical Foundations for Learning, Program Development, Planning and Implementation, Assessment and Evaluation Practices, the Learning Environment, Shared Support and Legislation and Policy. Instructional strategies, including cooperative learning, problem-solving, classroom management for a safe classroom, and evaluation of performance-based learning provide a focus for the development of learning modules and other instructional methods appropriate for broad-based and integrated technology programs. The course includes evaluation of participants’ technical proficiency in Computer Technology including: safe work habits repairing computer hardware and software computer networking working with electronics, robotics and computer interfacing developing computer programs

Notes

There is a $50 non-refundable materials charge for the course due on the first day of classes.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites:

  1. Candidates who DO have both the 9/10 and 11/12 certification in one Technological area listed on their Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification qualify to take any other 9/10 Technological course. (Please note that to take the grade 11/12 course in another area there are prerequisites)
  2. Applicants who DO NOT have Technological Education listed on their Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification, i.e. 9/10 and 11/12 Technological courses in the same area, must meet the following work experience admission requirements:
  • 5 years of full time, related and acceptable wage earning work experience refer to table below
  • Work experience must be completed in blocks of at least 4 months
  • Part-time work as a student while attending school or between semesters and summer breaks does not count
  • Work experience must be documented on company letterhead outlining the duties performed with dates, and signed by an appropriate Supervisor

OR

  • 3 years full-time work experience as defined above in an OISE listed trade or profession AFTER successful completion of a related 2 year diploma program

OR

  • 2 years full-time wage earning experience as defined above in an OISE listed trade or profession AFTER successful completion of a related 3 or 4 year diploma/degree program

Please Note: WORK EXPERIENCE CANNOT BE COUNTED TOWARD MORE THAN ONE GRADE 9/10 or 11/12 TECHNOLOGY ABQ.

Applicants to a Technology AQ course must have formal technical education, proof of competence and skilled wage-earning experience in one or more of the following GENERAL areas (inquiries about experience in a specific field are assessed on a case-by-case basis by the assessment office):
