English as a second language teaching has been influenced by a whole range of theories which are connected to particular teaching methods and techniques for instruction. Classroom context, the continuous intake of students, the learner’s native language, cultural background and academic orientation are among many of the factors that influence teaching and student progress in second language acquisition, especially in classroom environments.
The English as a Second Language Part 2 course builds upon the knowledge and skills that you have learned from Part I in its exploration of various theories, approaches and issues that characterize second language teaching and learning. Through an in-depth analysis of factors affecting second language acquisition and instruction, the course aims to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the field so that you can reflect on and improve your classroom practice. Attention will be given to the latest research and related methodologies with a particular focus on communicative and participatory language teaching.
