The course in Teaching and Learning Through eLearning is open to all candidates. This course supports an exploration of the student-based, curricular, technological and strategic factors that support student learning in the quickly expanding area of online learning. The course uses a student centered approach, where eLearning is viewed in terms of supporting the success of all students. While theoretical understandings are explored, the course looks to identify strategies to support learning while providing significant opportunity for application of these concepts. Candidates will create an orientation course in a Learning Management System, for students that teachers would be likely to encounter in their current teaching assignments, gaining valuable curricular and technological experience. The goal is to learn to create online learning environments that support all students based on multiple intelligences, learning styles, heritage, strengths and interests. Topics include development of student profiles, differentiated instruction, effective assessment practices, classroom management in an online medium, and online technology tools.
