Course Description:
This course will extend skills and knowledge of teachers in the design, delivery and assessment of the primary basic division program. It focuses on the belief that primary programs include active, play-based learning and an individualized curriculum that has particular emphasis on social and language development through all content areas.
Candidates will participate in discussions that include readings, creating new tools for teaching and a culminating task on planning and communication. This course leads to a basic qualification in the Primary Division.Topics in this course include:
- Developing a learning community
- Understanding the primary learner
- Understanding primary learning
- Understanding the primary learning environment
- Differentiating instruction in the primary classroom
- Assessment, evaluation and reporting
- Parent involvement
Requirements:
- A “Certificate of Qualification” showing basic qualifications in two divisions: i.e. Junior, Intermediate, or Senior.
- “Certificate of Qualification” must be in good standing.
- An acceptable university degree
