21st century classrooms feature myriad media forms to assist our teaching. Interactive technologies are at the forefront of this multimodal renaissance. They provide us with diverse tools for facilitating our student’s needs. As well, they create opportunities for expanding our pedagogic capabilities and maximizing our efficiency.

21st century technologies are crucial instruments in preparing our students for the ‘real’ world. Technology can improve our students’ writing, reading, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Computers engage students’ thinking and learning in ways different from other classroom tools. Thus, they need a corresponding pedagogic approach. A style and care different from more traditional teaching tasks.

Integration of computers and technology in the classroom is not always an easy affair. We need to deal with temperamental machines and make due with limited resources. We must be sensitive to students’ diverse technical backgrounds. And we must align computer use with our curricular demands and our students’ learning needs.
