This introductory course in Co-operative Education provides a foundation for integrating internal learning in school with external work experiences outside of school. Teachers are exposed to key components of experimental learning and their role in facilitating career development in students with job shadowing, job twinning, placements and school-to-work transitions including the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).
Topics include:
• Pre-course counseling and interviewing procedures for Coop opportunities
• Roles and responsibilities of employers
• Understanding the purpose of pre-placement orientation
• Assessing and evaluating student performance including regular on-site assessments
• Accommodating and modifying expectations for students with special needs
• Understanding legal and ethical issues
• Understanding provincial and federal legislation related to work environments
• Understanding procedures for accident reports
